Alpine Escape 2023

Alpine Escape 2023 - 12th - 17th September 2023

In 2023 we are very excited to bring you our first Alpine Escape. This trip has been in the planning for two years and taken on many different incarnations. The Alps is a majestic cycling arena and when planning trips it is too easy to get caught up in trying to 'do it all'. With this in mind we have planned a trip on roads that we know well and in an area we love.

The route we have chosen is challenging, however it is designed to be enjoyed rather than raced and you will have a constant dialogue over whether to stop for another picture or keep pedalling.

Day 1

Arrival day. You will arrive at about midday at Geneva airport where transport will be arranged to make the short journey to Annecy. Once you have checked in we will then have a leisurely loop of the lake on the beautiful cycle path to spin out the journey.

Day 2

Our 2nd day sees us take the cycle path to the east of the lake and then head up the Col du Bluffy to warm the legs up. Over the next 80km we then take on the Col du Croix Fry, Col du Aravis and finish with the climb up to the ski station at Saisies before descending to our accommodation in Beaufort. Today is not an enormous distance, but at nearly 3000m of climbing in 90km, it is certainly one to be respected.

Day 3

We head out from Beaufort and head straight up the the Cormet de Roseland - you will be hard pushed to find a more beautiful climb! From there the rest of the ride is largely downhill to our accommodation in Moutiers. If you are feeling very spritely, you could take on the climb to La Plagne - this is an out and back climb up to a ski station which then rejoins our route to our accommodation.

Day 4

Moutiers to Albertville - this is actually quite a short drive for most as they head to their ski resort or summer chalet. However, for us it will be slightly different as we take on the mighty Col de la Madeleine - 25km at 6% is certainly a stern test for all riders. From there we have a very pleasant flat run down to our accommodation in Albertville

Day 5

Our final day in the saddle - we start the day with a very relaxed spin along the cycle path linking Annecy and Albertville. However, as we reach St Jorioz, with our destination in sight, we take a left turn up the Col de Leschaux via St Eustache. This is not an especially tricky climb, but it does afford us a great view of the Lake below. From Leschaux we then continue climbing up to to Cret de Chatillon at the top of the Semnoz Massif. From there we have a fast decent back to Annecy and our hotel for the final night.

Day 6

Departure day. You will be transferred to Geneva airport for your flight home.
