Is everyone in Spain?

Well it sure seems it from our social media feed. And we were in Calpe last week and it sure was busy!

This is the time of year that bike riders from all over northern Europe head south in pursuit of sunnier weather and a block of high quality bike riding. Whilst some groups head to the Balearic's and Canaries, many are choosing the roads of the Costa Blanca. For cycling teams it makes complete sense as they can drive through Europe with team cars and support vehicles without the extra cost of of ferries, planes and logistical challenges. However, we also see significant benefits for riders of all ages and ambitions.

Our season has started.

Last week we spent 7 days supporting the Tofauti Everone Active Majaco UCI junior team on the roads of the Costa Blanca. We had a brilliant week watching these young superstars refine their form ahead of a very exciting calendar of races this summer.

It is a real privilege to watch young racers go about their preparation - the diligence with which they train and the joy they experience riding their bike is really inspiring. Further inspiration was found via the incredible number of excellent bike riders training on the roads of the region including so many professionals.

We definitely recommend keeping an eye for this team and their young riders!

Is it not too early for cycling holidays?

Well, yes, if you are hoping for guaranteed sunshine and/or to ride giants like those in the Alps or Pyrenees. Early season trips do run the risk of inclement weather, but the benefits for the year ahead are potentially significant and furthermore a break of the UK grey weather is really quite wonderful.

Oh and the other great thing about travelling to the Costa Blanca at this time of year is the very real possibility of meeting some of the worlds best. In December and January, the region is littered with world tour teams from the male and female peloton.

Our recommendations

The coastline between Alicante and Valencia is blessed with a whole range of amazing routes including challenging climbs with KOMs/QOM times us mere mortals can only get in a vehicle. The towns of Altea, Calpe and Denia are extremely well serviced with excellent hotels and a network of outlets supporting cycling holidays. Furthermore, the towns of Moraira and Javea are beautiful and great spots if you are looking to hire an apartment or holiday home.

We are able to offer accommodation packages in both Calpe and Oliva (just north of Denia). For 5 nights, half board including transfers prices start at £645pp in Calpe and £725 in Oliva. Please see our trips page and special offers for information of upcoming trips.

We will be putting our January and February 2026 camps online this week (by 1/3/25) and we will be having a supported trip and semi supported offer in Feb half term. Please do reach out if this might be of interest - deposits only £100pp as we have 11 months until travel.
